Post-Hospital Recovery, Respite and Overnight Care
Some care is about a particular stretch of time: the weeks after a hospital stay, a break for the family member doing most of the caring, or nights that have become hard. Livia's certified PSWs step in for these moments, matched to your parent with the same care as all our services, and with Samantha as your direct contact.
Recovery after a hospital stay
The first weeks home after a hospital stay can feel uncertain. A caregiver helps your parent get back on their feet safely, short-term while they recover or ongoing if it helps. Care can work alongside any government-funded care arranged through Ontario Health atHome.
Help can include:
-
Bathing, dressing and personal care
-
Moving around safely and short walks
-
Meals and medication reminders
-
Light housekeeping and laundry
-
Company during the days at home
If a discharge date is coming up, call us early. It gives us time to meet you and find the right caregiver before your parent comes home.
Respite care for family caregivers
Caring for a parent is demanding, even when it comes from love. Respite care gives you time to rest, work, travel or simply step away, knowing your parent is with someone they already know. It can be a few hours a week, a regular day off, or cover while you're away.
Overnight care
Nights can be the hardest part, especially after a fall, a hospital stay or when someone gets up often. An overnight caregiver helps with toileting, repositioning and reassurance, so your parent is safe and the family can sleep. Book it occasionally or on a regular schedule.
How it works
Close to your parent, wherever you live
If you live in another city or country, you'll get a weekly written update, regular calls with Samantha, and a call right away if something needs your attention. We want to be your trusted face here, close to your parent.
Questions Families Ask
Can we book care just for a few weeks after a hospital stay?
Yes. Post-hospital care can be short-term while your parent recovers, or continue if it's helpful.
When should we call about care after a hospital discharge?
As soon as a discharge date is likely. Calling early gives us time to meet you and find the right caregiver before your parent comes home.
How often can we book respite care?
As often as you need. Families book a few hours a week, a regular day off, or cover while they travel.
How do I know if my parent needs overnight care?
Common signs are getting up often during the night, a recent fall, confusion or restlessness in the evening, or coming home from hospital. It can also help when a family member has been covering nights and needs to sleep. An overnight caregiver helps with toileting, repositioning and reassurance, so your parent stays safe.
Can these services work alongside Ontario Health atHome?
Yes. Many families keep their government-funded visits and add private care for extra hours, nights or respite.
